Art Club Memory ProjectOver the course of the year, Art Club participants worked on over 25 portraits for Bolivian students through the Memory Project.
The Memory Project is a nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, and extreme poverty. The goal is for the portraits to help the children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well being, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history in the future. For the art students, we want this to be an opportunity to creatively practice kindness and global awareness. We will definitely be doing this again next year! |

IA East Creates Art for Children's Hospital!Last Spring, the IA East Art Club sponsored a school wide project for the new DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan building currently under construction in Troy.
Students worked with local artist Gail Kaplan to complete their design on the theme of Fall. Ours is one of four panels completed by over 1,500 Troy School District students that will be installed and dedicated later this fall. The kids had a great time and learned a lot from Ms. Kaplan and Mrs. Stafford about not only mosaic, but also healing, art therapy and public art. Check out the video and read more about it HERE |
